Khatka (English)

|| KHatka

The simple meaning of 'Khatka' is fear, fear, doubt etc. Khatka comes under the ancient word 'Sphurit'. In this, when four or more Swars are rounded and used in a fast rhythm, then it is called 'Khatka'. In the process of Khatka, the next and first Swar from the root note is sung and played in a fast manner, then the root Swar is sung and played, like Khatka is to be given on the Swar 'P'. First from 'P' the next Swar 'Dha' will be played and then 'Pa' will be played. After this, the first Swar from 'Pa' will be played as 'M' and again 'Pa' will be played. To hit the Swar 'Pa', the Swars 'Dha Pa Ma Pa' are sung and played quickly in such a way that it sounds sweet and pleasant. To write Khatka in Swarlipi system, the vowel is written in brackets like (Pa) i.e. 'Dha Pa Ma Pa' Khatka is used in Thumri, Dadra Tappa and is also used in instrumental music.
