Jaati
It is known from the species of ragas that how many swaras have been used in the ascension (Aroh) and descension (Avroh) of the raga.
The raga with 5 swaras
has been called the raga of the Audav Caste (Jaati).
The 6-voice raga has been
called the Shadav Jaati raga.
The 7-voice raga has
been called the raga of the whole Jaati.
According to the raga
rules, it is necessary to have both the ascension (Aroh) and descension (Avroh)
of the ragas. Therefore from these three Jaati Nine Jaati are formed. E.g.-
(1) 5-5 vowels (swaras)
in both ascending (Aroh) and descending (Avroh) = Audav-Audav Jaati.
5 in ascending (Aroh), 6
vowels in descending (Avroh) = Audav Shadav Jaati.
5 in ascending (Aroh), 7
vowels in descending (Avroh) = Audav-entire (Sampuran) Jaati is formed
(2) Similarly, 6 vowels (swaras)
in ascending (Aroh), 5 vowels in descending (Avroh) = Shadav Audav Jaati.
6 vowels (swaras) in
ascending (Aroh), 6 vowels in descending (Avroh) = Shadav Shadav Jaati.
6 vowels (swaras) in aroha, 7 swaras in avaroha = Shadav – entire (Sampuran) Jaati.
6 vowels (swaras) in aroha, 7 swaras in avaroha = Shadav – entire (Sampuran) Jaati.
(3) Similarly, 7 vowels (swaras)
in the ascending, 5 vowels in the descending (Avroh) = the entire (Sampuran) Audav
Jaati..
7 vowels (swaras) in ascending, 6 vowels in descending (Avroh) = entire (Sampuran) Shadav Jaati.
7 vowels (swaras) in ascending, 6 vowels in descending (Avroh) = entire (Sampuran) Shadav Jaati.
7 vowels (swaras) in
ascending, 7 vowels in descending (Avroh) = the whole (Sampuran-Sampuran) Jaati
is formed.
